JOHN DRAKE

Metro Nashville Chief of Police John Drake is a native of Nashville.

A graduate of East Nashville, Chief Drake was also a successful athlete on the football field. The second African-American man to lead Nashville’s police department, Chief Drake was appointed to the role of Chief of Police in 2020, after spending more than 30 years with the police force.

He has worked in multiple department divisions, including patrol, vice narcotics, domestic violence and overnight field captain. He has placed emphasis on doing one’s best, building community relationships and improving peaceful conflict resolution.
